Gods And Goddesses Which Were Important In Religion:
Romans worshiped the same gods as the Greeks, they just changed their names. For example they changed the name of Zeus, who was king of the gods to Jupiter. They all changed Ares to Mars, who was the god of war. Over time they got knew gods from the countries that they had defeated in battle. Most of the emperors in Rome became gods after they died.
Romans did not offend their gods, for they thought if a god or goddess was angry at you bad thing would happen to you and your family. They had people called Augurs who predicted what the gods wishes where, from the behaviour of birds, that way they could always fulfil them without the gods getting angry. Religion impacted on Romans lives a great deal; a roman wouldn't do anything without the permission of the god. If a man wanted to ask out or kiss a girl he would go pray to Vesus for permission. A Roman would not travel, get married, or fight in a battle if the sacred chickens were not eating. The Roman army even offered sacrifices to their enemies gods to try persuade them to support them instead. Religion was very important to Romans and their daily lives. Explanations for events that happened usually involved the gods in some way. The Romans believed that gods controlled their lives and, spent a lot of time worshiping them. When it got closer to 283 AD, the more educated Romans stopped believing in the gods, and were more free to do things, for they didn't have to ask for permission from the gods and goddesses.
