What Health Issues Were Present In This Civilisation?:
During the Roman times there where lots of dreadful illnesses and events, such as plagues that erupted randomly; though the thing that killed thousands of Romans were infectious diseases like malaria. They also suffered from Tuberculosis, typhoid fever, and certain digestive ailments like gastroenteritis. About 30,000 Romans died each year, because of infectious diseases. The worst time was when a variety of diseases overtook the city of Rome, whenever the main river, the Tiber; flooded. Water leaked down from the hills which than created damp places for mosquitoes to breed, which then they carried and spread the deadly disease malaria.
Romans didn't live as long as we do now. In rome woman only lived up to there 20-30 and men a few years longer. Women under the age of 40 had a higher death rate than men. This would have been because woman would have had harder work and worse diets than men. For during the Roman time men had more rights then woman. Woman also had the dangers of dying during childbirth. During the Roman times there were lots of slaves and they had even shorter life spans. They didn't live much longer that their 20. Also the first 10 years of a child's life ran at a very high risk of death. More than 50 % of all children in this age group suffered from malarial infection, and the other 50% didn't even make it up to the age of ten.
